Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commission

In pursuance of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commission was set up vide Notification dated the 30th April, 2001 and it came into being with the appointment of State Election Commissioner on 16th September 2002. Its first State Election Commissioner Shri J. M. Tangu, IAS (Retd.) assumed charge on 16th September 2002.

State Election Commission, Arunachal Pradesh came into existence on 16th September, 2002 as envisaged in Article 243 (K) of the Constitution of India. The superintendence, direction and control of preparation of voters list and conduct of election to the local self government institution vest with the Commission.

Panchayati Raj Elections in Arunachal Pradesh are characterized by scrupulous adherence of reservations of seats at all levels namely Gram Panchayats, Anchal Samities & Zilla Parishads including the post of chairpersons, and high turn out of voters. Generally, elections are fought on political lines and are free, fair and peaceful.
